BESENERGY – Level 2 Portable EV Charger (32 Amp) Charging specifications

These are the BESENERGY Level 2 chargers. There are 4 of them and we will be talking about each with a focus on the 32 Amp model.

The first one is the 32-Amp model, a Level 2 charger with a power of 7.2 kW which runs at a 220V Voltage. With this kind of power, you can charge your 50 kWh Tesla Model 3 in about 6.5 hours. The same duration applies to the VW ID.3 Pure, ID.4 Pure or Renault Zoe, all of which have more or less the same battery capacity. The Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro will take about 9 hours to charge.

The second one is the 10-16 Amp model, a Level 1 & 2 charger that can output electrical energy at a power of 3.6 kW. It is slower but it is also more flexible, because it can do Level 1 as well and run on wall sockets from 110V to 240V. So when we compare it to the previous one, we will find that it takes about 13 hours to fully charge the Model 3, the VW cars and the Renault Zoe while for the Hyundai Kona and the Kia Niro it will take 17 hours. These numbers are certainly higher because of the lower amperage, but then you have to take into consideration the flexibility of this charger.

The third portable electric vehicle charger is a Level 2 charger with an amperage between 16-32 Amps at a power of 7.68 kW and a voltage between 220V-250V. If plugged into the right NEMA socket, this will put out the same numbers in terms of charging speed as the first one.

The fourth EV charger is the most powerful of them with an amperage of 40 Amps and a power of no less than 9.6 kW. Now here is where things get tricky because some cars cannot handle this fast charging rate. The cars we listed as examples for the charging time, all are limited to either 7.2 kW or 7.7 kW, so even if the charger is more powerful, you won’t get more miles of range per hour. But there are some electric cars which can take more power through the EV Charging Cable such as the Tesla Model Y which could potentially charge its entire 75 kWh battery pack in just 8 hours. The Mustang Mach e could also fully charge in 7.5 hours.

BESENERGY – Level 2 Portable EV Charger (32 Amp) Cable types and connectors

So let’s have a look at these compact home chargers in terms of connectors. It is worth noting that all of these use the same charge port to charge your car, the J1772 which represents the standard throughout North America. All of them have their charging cable tethered to the charger, so it cannot be easily disconnected and replaced. They do differ in cable length and especially in terms of the wall connector that they plug into.

First of all we have the 32-Amp portable charger which has a cable that is 23.6 Feet (7.1M) long and which plugs into a NEMA 14-50 socket.

Then there is the 10-16 Amp which can run as a Level 1 or 2 charger has a cable that is 24 feet (7.2M) long and plugs into either a NEMA 6-20 or NEMA 5-15 connector.

The 16-32 Amp model has a charging cable that is 19.3 Feet (5.8M) long and plugs into a NEMA 14-50 socket.

The last one, the 40 Amp model has a cable that is 25 Feet (7.6M) long and it too plugs into a NEMA 14-50 wall socket.

BESENERGY – Level 2 Portable EV Charger (32 Amp) Features

In terms of connectivity, none of these versions have any kind of WiFi connectivity, Alexa integration or smartphone app meaning they’re not smart chargers. But when we get to the display, you need to know that all the 3 pure Level 2 chargers have a nice color display which shows you key info on the charging level, if there are any faults, what kind of voltage is running through the charger and the Amperage. It also displays the working temperature and how much time has passed since the charger was running. The Level 1/2 charger only has LED lights on it.

None of them seems to have scheduled charging feature either, so if the EV owners want to reduce your charging cost and use off-peak electric energy, then they’ll need to turn to their EV or Plug-In Hybrid for that function because most new cars have this function.

All these portable EVSE chargers are IP66 rated, which means that they can withstand larger amounts of water and dust, but it is best to use them inside your garage where they can function safely. Also, all these BESENERGY electric car chargers come with a 1-Year Limited Warranty.

They vary in weight, the 32 Amp weighs 10.7 lbs, the 10-16 Amp BESENERGY charger weighs 6.8 lbs, the 16-32 Amp weighs 6.9 and the 40 Amp weighs 11.8 lbs.
