Let’s have a look at each product in particular.

We’ll start with the Mustart as our first NEMA 10-30 EV Charger because this is also our favorite and we’ll explain why: It can plug into any 10-30 socket running at a 240V voltage and it can output 6.24 kW of pure charging power. The cable is 25ft long (7.6 meters) and we like that because it gives you flexibility to leave your car further away from the plug.

Now in case those numbers don’t mean much to you, let us explain how that translates into actual charging times: A Tesla Model 3 should be able to charge in about 7-8 hours, while the Long Range Model 3 should take 10-11 hours. Then there is the Model Y which should take 10.5 – 11.5 hours and the Kia Niro or Hyundai Kona both of which should charge in somewhere between in 10-11 hours. These are just estimates for getting to a full charge from 0%, they’re not official figures. This device provides the fastest charging speeds of any portable charger that made our current list.

It isn’t a smart charger so there is no wifi connectivity or smartphone app, but one of the main reasons we like it is not just because it is a fairly fast home ev charger but also because it has an LCD display that indicates critical info such as the charging status, the charging rate, the AMP circuit charging capacity, a charge timer, the current voltage and the temperature of the unit. Not all EV Adapters can display this info as you shall find out.

The control box is IP65 rated so it is guaranteed to be waterproof and also dustproof, plus the manufacturer offers you a 2-Year No-Hassle warranty on the portable EV charger.

Then there are the SplitVolt chargers and in particular the 24-Amp portable model, our second NEMA 10-30 EV Charger which will easily plug into your standard household 10-30 or 14-30 plug. This is a 24-Amp charger which can output up to 6.6 kW of power so it is safe to assume that it will have very similar charging times to the ones that were estimated for the Mustart.

The biggest problem with this charger is the cable which is just too short: 16.4 feet (4.9 meters) might not be enough in some situations. If you really like the charger and it doesn’t extend as much as you need you can always just get an extension cord.

Now this isn’t a smart charger either and in this case you’re not going to get the LCD Display, instead there are 4 LED lights, one to tell you if the charger adapter is getting power, one if it is charging and two are allocated for different types of faults. One of the disadvantages of chargers without any smart features is that they lack charge scheduling, something which helps you save on your energy bill by using off-peak electricity but your EV most likely has this built in.

You have to remember that SplitVolt Inc. also makes the SplitVolt Splitter switches (The one with the dryer plug and EV plug) so this one will work perfectly with that one because they were intended to be a part of their little ecosystem.

The control box is IP55 rated so it should be fairly good at withstanding water and dirt. The unit is covered by a 1-Year No-Hassle warranty.

Now we get to our third NEMA 10-30 EV Charger, the PRIMECOM 16-Amp Portable Charger. This will plug into anything that the national electric code (NEC) can possibly think of. Joke aside, there are so many plug options for this one: NEMA 14-30, NEMA 10-30, NEMA 14-50, NEMA 6-20, NEMA 6-50 and NEMA 10-50.

And the flexibility doesn’t stop with the plug types because this also comes with 2 cable options: Either with a 30ft cable (9.1 meters) or a 50ft cable (15.2 meters). If you’re new to the whole EV charging scene just know that this particular device offers a lot of options that you would not normally get. And even so, the base cable is longer than any other cable here.

Unfortunately it doesn’t do as well when it comes to charging because it only outputs 3.84 kW. The same standard Model 3 now takes 13-14 hours to charge, the Model Y takes 19-20. Not as fun as with those 6 kW chargers but still, if you get home at 8PM and leave in the morning at 8AM that still gives you a good 12 hours to put in some miles of range in your car.

No smart features on this one either, however the LCD display is there showing you important charging information, mostly what you would also get with the Mustart.

The device is IP55 rated for protection against water and dirt and PRIMECOM will offer you a 1-Year warranty on it.

The last NEMA 10-30 EV Charger we’re going to be looking at is the Level 2 Portable Lectron charger, the 16-Amp model. This one has the same 3.86 kW power as the PRIMECOM and so you can expect to wait the same amount of time for a full charge on your Plug-in EV. It can plug into a NEMA 6-20 or a NEMA 10-30 outlet.

It comes with a 21ft cable (6.4 meters) which we would classify as not great, not terrible and it uses the Duosida Control Box, so it is IP55 rated and has the 4 LEDs to notify you if it’s charging or if there are any faults.

What is different with this charger? Not much, there are no smart features and in the end it will come down to personal preference, though the PRIMECOM has some pretty solid advantages if you are going to go for a 16A Level 2 model.
