LEFANEV WallBox – Level 2 EV Charging Station Charging specifications

The LEFANEV Level 2 EV Charging Station is a wall charger that you mount in your garage which provides very fast charging speeds for your electric car. It comes in two flavours: 32 Amp and 40 Amp. What you need to know is that both models are very much alike, they just differ in a few ways.

First of all, we need to look at the the 32-Amp wallbox which has a charging rate of 7.7 kW. With this kind of power, you could charge a standard Tesla Model 3 in about 6.5 hours and this would also apply to the VW ID.4 Pure, ID.3 Pure and to the Renault Zoe. If you were to charge a Tesla Model Y for instance, it would take 9.5 hours and if you drive a Hyundai Kona or a Kia Niro, you’ll be happy to know it will charge in just 9 hours. If you drive a Mustang Mach E, you’ll be quite happy to know it will take just 9 hours to charge your car. These are great charging times, because if you plug in your car at home it is more than likely you’ll be sleeping for 8 hours so it has plenty of time to fully charge. It runs on a 220-240V voltage.

But what if this is not fast enough for you and you want more miles of range per hour of charge? Then there is the 40-Amp wallbox which will charge your plug-in hybrid or electric vehicle at a rate of 9.6 kW. Let’s see how that would translate into real life: Now your Tesla Model Y will charge in just 8 hours, but the standard Model 3 can’t take advantage of the 9.6 kW charging, so it will still take 6.5 hours to charge it. The Long Range Tesla Model 3 however can make use of all this power and it will charge the 70 kWh battery in just 7.5 hours. The Mustang Mach E now takes just 7.5 hours to charge. The ID.3 Pure and ID.4 Pure can’t take advantage of the faster charging speed either, you need to buy the Pro versions for that.

So as you can see, it depends on the car being able to use all of that charging power.

LEFANEV WallBox – Level 2 EV Charging Station Cable types and connectors

Now the LEFANEV Level 2 charging station comes with a cable that is 20 feet long (About 6 meters) and is tethered to the charger, because in North America most EV Chargers are like that, meaning you can’t disconnect them. As a personal opinion, the cable is a bit on the short side since at this price you’ll find plenty of other portable chargers and charging stations that come with a 25 foot long EV Charging Cable.

Let’s look at the wall connector because this is crucial information for any EV owner to know before installing and modifying additional wall sockets. The 32-Amp wall box can plug into either a NEMA 14-50 or a NEMA 6-50 socket, while the 40-Amp wall box can only be plugged into a NEMA 14-50 socket.

At the other end of the charging cable is a J1772 connector for both versions which you’ll find on any electric vehicle charger in North America (All EVs sold in NA have a J1772 charge port or come with an adapter).

LEFANEV WallBox – Level 2 EV Charging Station Features

The LEFANEV WallBox does not have any kind of connectivity, this is not a smart charger. You cannot interact with it in any intelligent way or connect it to an Amazon Echo. There is also no Scheduled Charging, a useful charging feature that lets you take advantage of off-peak electricity which is usually provided by the power company late at night. This cheap electric energy costs less and it may reduce your charging cost. Luckily, most new EVs come with the timer function to help you do just that, in case your charger doesn’t know how to do that.

In order for you to read the charging level and status, it has an LCD display that shows you if it is charging, at what rate, the Amperage as well as how long it has been plugged in or if there is a fault. This kind of display is standard and can be found on several other EVs from different brands.

The wallbox is IP66 rated so it will easily withstand splashes and dirt. LEFANEV also offers you a 2-Year No-Hassle warranty. In terms of weight, the 40-Amp unit only weighs 13.97 lbs.
