Morec – Level 2 EV Charging Station (32 Amp) Charging specifications

The Morec EVSE Charger Station comes in two versions: A 32-Amp version on which we’ll be focusing here and a 40-Amp version. The 32-Amp model has a charging rate of 7.2 kW. It works at a voltage between 220V and 240V. So how does that translate into real life charging times? You can charge a Tesla Model 3 in about 6.5 hours and the same charging time will apply to the Volkswagen ID.3 Pure, ID.4 Pure and to the Renault Zoe since all of them have a battery pack of similar size. A Tesla Model Y with the 75 kWh battery pack will charge in 9.5 hours and so will the ID.3 Pro and ID.4 Pro. It will take 9 hours to charge your car if it is a Long Range Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Kona, Kia Niro or the 70 kWh Mustang Mach E.

Now the 40-Amp model has a charging rate of 9.6 kw which means that it will charge some of these models faster. Now the standard Model 3, the ID.3 Pure, ID.4 Pure, Renault Zoe, Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro can’t take full advantage of this fast charging rate, so they will charge as fast as with the 32 Amp model. However, the Tesla Model Y can and it will charge in just 8 hours while the Mustang Mach E will charge in 7.5 hours.

These are just estimates based on some calculations which take into account the size of the electric car’s battery and the charging power, so take them as estimates not a as official data.

Morec – Level 2 EV Charging Station (32 Amp) Cable types and connectors

The cable for both chargers that extends out from the wall charger is 20 feet long (6.1 meters) and as personal note, it is a bit shorter than we would like because in this price range you’ll find plenty of chargers that provide a 25 foot long EV charging cable.

The 32-Amp is designed to plug into a NEMA 6-50 wall socket while the 40-Amp comes with a NEMA 14-50 wall connector. The charge port that plugs into the car for both chargers is an SAE J1772, the standard for North American EV chargers. You can’t disconnect the cable from the charger because this is a tethered charger.

Morec – Level 2 EV Charging Station (32 Amp) Features

The Morec EVSE charger is a smart charger meaning both versions come with a Bluetooth and WiFi connection. There is a smartphone app that you can use that has a great design and is easy to use. You can use it to read the voltage, how long the car has been charging, what is the temperature of the unit and also set the amperage and especially set a charging timer (aka Scheduled Charging).

Why is the scheduled charging feature so important? This is because you can use it to actually save money on your electric energy bill by setting the car to charge late at night and use off-peak electricity which is cheaper and will reduce your charging cost.

There is also a nice LCD display on the unit which displays the charging level, amperage, voltage, temperature and timer. All of these features, the app and the LCD are available on both versions.

So in terms of connectivity, home electric vehicle charging station performs brilliantly. And it’s not just about the inside, because the outside is IP66 rated, meaning you can splash the box with water and it will still continue to work. Morec also offers you a 1-Year No-Hassle warranty for the unit.
