The Enel X JuiceBox 32 is our first EV charger for the Kia Niro that we’ll be reviewing. We selected this device specifically for the Niro EV because it matches its maximum on-board charging capacity, so even if you were to buy a faster charging station, it won’t reduce the charging time.

You connect it to a NEMA 14-50 outlet or you can hardwire it to your home circuit and it will deliver up to 7.7 kW of power and 32 Amps at a 240V voltage.

It comes with a 25ft charging cable that has a J1772 connector. This makes it compatible with the Kia Niro EV, Kia Optima, Kia Soul EV, Chevy Bolt EV and most of the electric cars sold in North America (Because they all use this connector type) either directly or through an adapter as is the case for Tesla models.

So if you drive the Niro with the 64 kWh battery pack, this device, according to our estimations charges your electric vehicle in 9-10 hours.

You can connect to this smart charger via your smartphone and the Juicenet app available on Google Play and the App Store. The app will help you remotely control the charger, start it or stop it whenever you want and also by using just your voice if you want, since it can integrate with Alexa and Google Assistant. You can get real-time charging info, detailed log of all your past charging sessions. It also keeps track of your charging cost and you can ask it to tell you how much you’ve spent on charging your EV this month just by using your voice.

The unit is NEMA 4X rated, which would be the equivalent of IP66. This means very high resistance to water splashes, dust and dirt. Enel offers a 3-Year Limited warranty on this particular model.

The EVoCharge EVSE is a great option for a Kia Niro Home Charger. It is a Level 2 charger that can output a power of up to 7.68 kW and up to 32 Amps of electrical current. You can plug it into a NEMA 6-50 connector at a 240V voltage or just hardwire it directly when you have the charger installed.

Given its power output, you can expect it to post the same charging time as the Enel JuiceBox. There’s two options for the cable on this charging unit, you can get it either with an 18ft (5.5 meters) cable or a 25ft (7.6 meters) cable.

Along with the cable options, there’s also a choice between 2 versions, a Wi-Fi & Non-Wifi. Obviously, the smart version is more expensive but it does come with a host of control features like the ability to manage multiple charging stations directly from the smartphone app. It will show you extensive reports on how much energy your EV is using every day, set a charging schedule so that the charger only draws power from the grid when it’s cheaper at night but also get real-time readings from it.

The enclosure of this home charge point is NEMA 4 rated so it will withstand plenty of water, dirt, dust and whatever nature thinks about throwing at it. EVoCharge will offer you a 3-Year warranty on this device.

The Morec represents a different approach to a Kia Niro Charger in the sense that this is a portable charger which you don’t need to install at home, you can just keep it in your trunk because it only weighs 10 lbs (4.5 kg).

You just plug it into a NEMA 14-50 or a NEMA 6-50 outlet at a 240V voltage and it will deliver 32 Amps of electrical current and 7.68 kW of power. The charging cable is quite long too, it can extend up to 26 feet (7.9 meters) and uses a J1772 connector.

So if you don’t have to install it, it’s light and easy to use, what would be the drawbacks? Well first of all this and other chargers do not have any kind of smart features. There’s no app, no connectivity, no reporting feature or charge scheduling. But if you just want to plug and go, this might be a solid option. There is an LCD screen though that will display key info from Amperage, Voltage, Power, how much charge has been delivered to the car and a timer for it.

The control box is IP66 rated so you can rely on it to be waterproof and dustproof. It doesn’t have the kind of warranty that you get on the charging stations as it is limited to 1 year.

Now we get to the last Kia Niro charger, the Megear 16 Amp Level 1-2 charger. This particular device can output 3.84 kW of power and you’d be asking yourself at this point why would we recommend a slower charger? That’s because this is better suited for charging the Kia Niro Plug-In Hybrid which is limited to 3.3 kW and has a small battery pack of 24.7 kWh.

You can plug it into a NEMA 6-20 or a NEMA 5-15 wall outlet and it can work at a voltage from 100V to 240V. It comes with a 25ft Charging Cable and a J1772 which will will be compatible with your plug-in vehicle. Estimated charging time? About 9 hours. Even if you bought a more expensive charger, the duration would be the same.

Like the Morec, this doesn’t have any smart features, it is a simple and much cheaper charger than the others. There is no LCD screen either, just 4 indicating lights that will tell you if the charger is getting power from the grid, if it is charging or if there is a fault. The control box is IP55 rated and it comes with a 1-Year No-Hassle warranty.
